Violence Research Initiative

The Violence Research Initiative at Leiden University combines expertise in violence research to help inform public policy and practice and pave the way for violence prevention. We carry out research, offer academic courses, professional training and workshops.

The Initiative is a hub of expertise within the Institute of Security and Global Affairs for the integration of research, practice, and policy on interpersonal violence. In close collaboration with our international partners, we study interpersonal violence and work towards violence prevention taking a unique interdisciplinary approach. This approach combines perspectives from public health, law, psychology, criminology, victimology and policy-based research.

The Violence Research Initiative is also the host and partner of the European Homicide Monitor, a European-wide homicide data collection project.
